Acquisitions
Sell to a buyer who does the work.
Visory acquires established bookkeeping practices and payroll bureaus across Australia. We run this work every day, so your clients and your team land somewhere built for it, on a timeline you set.
- Confidential from the first conversation.
- Founder to founder, with or without a broker.
- A clean exit, or a role if you want to stay.
Why now
Why owners are talking to us.
The timing of a sale is rarely obvious. Three things are bringing the conversation forward.
-
Succession
Few practices have a buyer inside.
Many bookkeeping and payroll businesses are led by their owner, with no partner or senior team member ready to buy in. Planning early keeps the timing and the terms in your hands.
-
Something bigger
Make your business part of something bigger.
Your clients and your team join a company that runs the finance function for growing businesses across Australia, New Zealand and the United States, with a dedicated team on every account and the investment behind it to keep building. The practice you built keeps going, inside something with the reach to take it further.
-
The AI shift
AI is rewriting the economics of this industry.
The routine processing a practice charges for is the work AI now does first, and clients are starting to expect lower prices, faster turnaround and more insight for the same fee. An owner funding that shift alone is exposed. Selling to a buyer already built on it means you do not have to carry it by yourself.
Whatever your timing, a first conversation is confidential and commits you to nothing.
Who we are looking for
Is this your business?
We know what we are looking for, so you will know quickly whether a conversation is worth your time.
-
The work
Bookkeeping, payroll, or both.
An established practice or bureau whose fees come from keeping the books and running pay for small and medium businesses. Payroll-heavy businesses are especially welcome.
-
The fees
Recurring, not project by project.
Most of your revenue repeats: fixed monthly fees, or fees per pay run or payslip, from clients who stay with you year after year.
-
The size
From $1m in annual revenue.
Usually a team of up to around 25 people. If your business is larger, we would still like to talk.
-
The software
Books and pay runs in the cloud.
Clients on Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks Online or Employment Hero (KeyPay). Another system is not a deal breaker; it changes how the move is planned.
-
The location
Anywhere in Australia.
Wherever your office is, and wherever your clients are.
-
The owner
Thinking about what comes next.
Retirement, stepping back from the processing, or a bigger platform for your team; next year or a few years away.
Probably not the right fit: businesses whose revenue comes mainly from labour hire, recruitment, contractor management fees, or one-off consulting and project work, and businesses already owned by another group.
What happens to what you built
Your clients, your team, and you.
The three things owners ask about first. Each is agreed with you before anything is signed.
-
Your clients
Looked after through every step.
- Nobody contacts them without your agreement. They hear about the sale when you are ready, and from you first.
- They move across in stages, introduced by you, with our onboarding team doing the setup work.
- They keep their own accounting file and gain a dedicated client team they know by name.
- They join Visory: one platform and one brand, on a timeline agreed with you before completion.
-
Your team
Part of what we are buying.
- Your people know your clients, and that knowledge is hard to replace.
- We meet the team properly during the process and agree roles with you before anything is announced.
- People who join become Visory employees in a client team, where Delphi AI takes on the routine processing and they do the review, the judgement and the client work.
-
You
Your exit, on your terms.
- Step out cleanly after a handover period you agree with us.
- Or stay on in a defined role, for example as the Business Performance Partner who owns client relationships while the platform and team handle the processing.
- Take it in cash, or keep a stake, with part of the price as equity in the Visory group if you want a share in what comes next.
Why Visory
An operator, not just a buyer.
We do this work every day, and that changes what a sale looks like for everyone involved.
-
We run the work
An operator in your industry.
Visory runs the finance function for growing businesses: bookkeeping, payroll, payables and receivables. When we buy a business, we are taking on more of the work we already do every day.
-
The platform
Delphi AI, with human oversight.
Its AI, Delphi, overseen by an expert team, helps deliver the routine processing in every workflow. Nothing that moves money happens without the customer approving it, and every step leaves an audit trail.
-
The full service
Bookkeeping, payroll and insights, done properly.
Books reconciled and closed every month, BAS prepared by a registered BAS agent, every pay run checked before it is approved and reported through Single Touch Payroll, and a monthly Visory Insights brief that turns the numbers into decisions. Every step leaves an audit trail.
-
One standard
One platform, one way of working.
Every client team works the same way on the same platform, so each business that joins becomes part of one service rather than a separate office to manage.
Experience
We have brought businesses together before.
Before Visory, its founding team helped scale Findex from roughly 30 people to 3,000, building the operating model behind more than 180 acquisitions and integrations of financial services firms.
- 180+ acquisitions and integrations of financial services firms
- 30 to 3,000 people, the growth that operating model carried
- Before Visory the founding team’s experience, applied to every Visory acquisition
A sale succeeds or fails after completion: whether clients stay, the team settles, and the books and pay runs keep running on time. The founding team has carried businesses through that handover many times, and Visory plans it with you before the agreement is signed.

Common questions
Questions owners ask.
Is this confidential?
Yes. Your enquiry is sent to Visory for our acquisitions team. We sign a mutual confidentiality agreement before anything sensitive is shared, and we do not contact your clients or your team without your agreement.
I am not ready to sell yet. Should I still get in touch?
Yes. Many owners start the conversation a year or more before they want to move. A first conversation commits you to nothing, and it gives you time to plan a sale on your terms.
Do I need a broker or an adviser?
No. You can talk to us directly. If you already work with a broker, accountant or lawyer, we are happy to work with them, and we recommend independent advice before you sign anything.
How do you work out what my business is worth?
We look at the recurring fees your clients pay, how long they stay, how spread the fees are across clients, how much depends on you personally, and how smoothly clients and systems can move across. We explain our offer in plain terms.
How is the price paid?
The structure is agreed with each owner. Part of the price is paid at completion and part once clients have moved across. Some owners also take part of the price as equity in the Visory group.
What happens to my business name?
Your clients move onto Visory: one platform and one brand. When and how that happens is agreed with you before completion, and you introduce us to your clients.
Do I have to stay on after the sale?
No. A clean handover and exit is completely fine. If you want to stay, we can talk about a defined role, such as looking after client relationships as a Business Performance Partner.
