Western Australian rules
The Western Australian rules your finance function runs on.
Four employer rules set by Western Australia, each with the instrument that sets it and what it does to your month. Your team works to them every pay run and every close.
Every dollar above $1 million changes the bill.
Because the threshold tapers, tax rises faster than wages inside the band. Returns are due by the 7th of the following month, and the annual reconciliation with the June return by 21 July.
Payroll tax is 5.5% of Western Australian taxable wages once Australian taxable wages pass an annual threshold of $1,000,000. The threshold diminishes for Australian wages between $1 million and $7.5 million and is nil from $7.5 million. Grouped businesses combine their wages, and only the designated group employer claims the threshold.

A resignation alone triggers payment from year seven.
The liability belongs in your balance sheet as a cash cost, not a contingency, and it builds from the first day.
After 10 years of continuous employment, an employee is entitled to 8.667 weeks of paid leave, then a further 4.333 weeks for every 5 years after that. Between 7 and 10 years, pro rata leave is paid when employment ends for any reason, including resignation, unless the employee is dismissed for serious misconduct. Western Australia’s holidays include Labour Day (the first Monday in March), Easter Sunday, Western Australia Day (the first Monday in June) and the King’s Birthday in late September (Monday 28 September 2026, Monday 27 September 2027). The City of Karratha and the Town of Port Hedland observe the King’s Birthday on a different day. The declaration should match payroll and the books.
The premium is adjusted to the actual remuneration you declare, so clean monthly numbers turn the end of policy declaration into a check rather than a project.
Every employer must hold workers compensation insurance for anyone the Act defines as a worker, which can include contractors and working directors. WorkCover WA’s average recommended premium rate for 2026/27 is 1.931% of wages, up from 1.823%, and insurers can discount or load it. Estimated remuneration is declared when a policy is issued or renewed, and actual remuneration as soon as practicable after the policy ends.

How it works from anywhere
Can a team outside Perth run a Perth business?
Yes. Visory’s head office is in Melbourne and its team works across Australia, so nothing about the work depends on where your office is.
Your own file
Your books stay in your own Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks file. Your team works inside it, so you see the same numbers they do, whenever you look.
A team you know by name
A dedicated team runs the work, led by a Business Performance Partner. You meet them by video call, and you always know who to ask.

What your numbers should show in Western Australia.
Clean books are the start. Every month, Insights turns them into a plain-English report, and a named Business Performance Partner walks your leadership team through what they mean for the year ahead.
The real cost of the next hire
On our arithmetic, inside the taper between $1 million and $7.5 million each extra dollar of wages adds about 6.3 cents of payroll tax, not 5.5. Insights helps a leader see the true marginal cost of each new role.
A dearer workers compensation renewal
The average recommended premium rate rose to 1.931% of wages for 2026/27, from 1.823%. Your Business Performance Partner shows the higher renewal and any year-end adjustment in the cash forecast, not last year’s premium.
Leave owed after seven years
In Western Australia pro rata long service leave is paid on resignation from year seven. Insights helps a leader see the leave owed to everyone past seven years as a near-term cash item, not a distant provision.

What customers say
In a customer’s words.
“Having Visory as a flexible partner to handle our day-to-day has meant real relief for our CFO. From an economies of scale perspective, the outsourced model is cost-effective compared to bringing someone in-house, and the handoff to our external accountant for tax has been noticeably smoother than it was before.”
Common questions
Questions Perth businesses ask.
Straight answers about bookkeeping for a Perth business, from a team that works remotely.
Does Visory have an office in Perth?
Visory’s head office is in Melbourne and our team works across Australia, so we support businesses in Perth as we do everywhere else. A Perth business gets a dedicated team you know by name, who work inside your own Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks file and meet you by video call. Your records stay in your file, which you can open at any time.
What hours does my Visory team work in Perth time?
Your team works 9am to 5pm Melbourne time, all year round, on business days. In Perth that is 7am to 3pm from April to October, and 6am to 2pm from October to April, because Western Australia has no daylight saving. Outside those hours, the Visory platform is your 24/7 access point, so your financial information is there whenever you need it.
Can a bookkeeper who isn’t in Perth look after my business?
Yes. Bookkeeping happens in your accounting software, not in an office, so a remote team can keep a Perth business current. What matters is that the team knows Western Australian rules on payroll tax, long service leave and public holidays, including the late September King’s Birthday, and that you know who they are.
How much does a bookkeeper cost in Perth?
Visory charges one flat monthly fee for the scope we agree, with no hourly billing and no timesheets. The fee reflects the services you take, from bookkeeping and payroll to Insights, and the volume of work in your business. You get the quote in writing after a discovery call, so you know the monthly cost before you start.
See how pricing works Do you work in Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks?
Yes. Your team works inside your own Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks file, so nothing has to move to a new system and you keep full access to your records. Bank feeds, bills, invoices and payroll are reconciled in that file every month. Delphi AI, overseen by your team, is there if you choose it.
Can Visory lodge my BAS?
Yes. Visory is a registered BAS agent, so your team prepares your business activity statement from reconciled books and lodges it with the ATO for you. The GST and PAYG withholding figures come from the same Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks file your team keeps current every month. Payroll tax and workers compensation returns work differently: they draw on reconciled payroll.
When does a Western Australian business have to pay payroll tax?
Once its Australian taxable wages, or its group’s, pass $1 million a year, at 5.5% of Western Australian taxable wages. The threshold tapers away between $1 million and $7.5 million. Returns are due by the 7th of the following month and the annual reconciliation by 21 July, and each return draws on the same reconciled payroll as your books.
How does long service leave work for Western Australian employees?
Employees earn 8.667 weeks of paid leave after 10 years of continuous employment. From 7 years, pro rata leave is paid when employment ends for any reason, including resignation, unless the employee is dismissed for serious misconduct. Construction workers accrue portable leave with MyLeave instead, so the liability is tracked in the books from the first day.
Can you run payroll for staff in Perth and over east?
Yes. One dedicated team runs payroll across states, with each employee on the right state’s public holidays and long service leave rules. Payroll tax is worked out state by state, and a business with wages in several states shares each threshold between them, so every state’s return draws on the same reconciled wages as your books.
Do you offer a virtual CFO in Perth?
Visory has no standalone CFO offer: that work sits inside Visory Insights, which gives you monthly plain-English reporting and structured sessions with a named Business Performance Partner, which covers what many growing businesses look for when they search for a virtual CFO. The person explaining your margin works with the team that closed your month, so the numbers and the advice come from one place.
