Outsourced finance function

Visory runs your finance function end to end. Bookkeeping, payroll, payables and receivables, done by a dedicated team you know by name, and the month handed back to you as decisions, not a pile of reports.

Why businesses come to Visory

Nobody comes looking for something better. They come to get something solved.

The businesses that move to Visory are usually already paying someone. What they do not have is a finance function they can rely on. These are the four moments that bring them here.

The trigger

I can’t trust what I’ve got.

Reports that arrive late, numbers that change after the fact, a BAS that surprised you. Once the figures are in doubt, every decision built on them is too.

The trigger

I need this off my plate.

Reconciling, chasing invoices and running pay are eating the hours that should go on clients, programs or growth. The owner has quietly become the finance team.

The trigger

Everything depends on one person.

An internal bookkeeper, a part-timer or a sole practitioner: their week off is your month behind, and the knowledge of how your money moves lives in one head.

The trigger

The numbers won’t hold up in the room.

A board, a bank, a funder or a buyer wants the position by client, program or service line, and the books cannot answer the question.

If one of those is you, what follows is what a whole finance function looks like, and what it would cost you to build one yourself.

The concept

Between a bookkeeper and a finance team.

Most businesses sit between a part-time bookkeeper and a finance team they are not ready to build. An in-house function is built from salaries. Visory is the third option: the whole finance function, run for you, for one fee.

What most start with

A part-time bookkeeper

Keeps the books, and stops there. Payroll, bills, collections and reporting stay on your desk, and the numbers arrive too late to act on. Cheap on paper; the gap is the part you pay for.

What comes next is a big step

An in-house finance team

Runs the function, but it is built from salaries: a bookkeeper, a payroll officer, and someone senior to make sense of it all. Three roles, carried all year, before the business is ready to fill them.

The third option

Visory

Your finance function, run end to end by a dedicated team you know by name, with Delphi AI preparing and checking in the background, for one flat monthly fee. You get the function without building it.

The layers

A finance function, layer by layer.

A finance function is a set of jobs, not a job title. Visory runs them as layers, each built on the one beneath it, and you take the layers you need. Everything above finance operations comes with a conversation.

  1. Foundation

    Goals and set-up

Understand the business before touching the numbers.

    • Your goals and context
    • A chart of accounts restructured around how the business runs
    • Reporting designed around what you need to see

Every customer, as the first phase of onboarding.

  2. Layer one

    Finance operations

    Run the month.

    • Bookkeeping
    • Payroll
    • Accounts payable
    • Accounts receivable
    • Month-end close

Four services, each one its own page. Take the ones you need.

  3. Layer two

    Management reporting

    Report against the plan.

    • The Insights brief with every close
    • Profitability by client, service line or program
    • Trends, in plain English
    • Figures that hold up in front of a board

    Delivered as Visory Insights.

  4. Layer three

    Planning and commercial finance

    Plan, and find the money.

    • Cash and runway, looking forward
    • Where the margin is made and lost
    • The one move worth making next

    Delivered as Visory Insights.

  5. Layer four

    Finance leadership

Hold the business to its goals.

    • Monthly or quarterly sessions with your Business Performance Partner
    • The questions a finance lead would ask, asked
    • A standing relationship, not a project

    Delivered as Visory Insights.

Layers two to four are delivered as Visory Insights: once a month, what changed, what it means, and what to do next.

How it runs

One team, one platform, one monthly rhythm.

However many services you take, the function runs the same way.

The team

Four named roles, one point of contact

A Business Performance Partner accountable for everything Visory delivers, a Manager who runs the service day to day, and a Bookkeeper and Payroll Officer doing the work. Backed by a shared bench, so a week off is never your month behind.

The platform

Delphi AI, in the background

Delphi AI prepares and checks the routine work in the background, so your team’s time goes on judgement and advice. Nothing that moves money happens without your approval.

The rhythm

A month that ends in a decision

Your books close on an agreed timetable, the Insights brief lands with the close, and your partner works through the next move with you. Reports are walked through, never emailed and left.

One month, one function

What comes back to you each month.

Here is March for Harbour Studio, a design practice at about $4.5m in revenue, run as one finance function: four services through the month, then one session that ends in a decision.

Bookkeeping

384 bank lines matched

Closed on schedule.

Payroll

12 people paid

Friday 27 March, approved by you first.

Accounts payable

8 bills paid

One $1,240 duplicate held before it went out.

Accounts receivable

24 debtor days

Down from 31 over six months.

Thursday 9 April · the session

Gross margin 64%, up 2.1 points since January, against a 60% target.

The brief landed with the close. In the session, the partner put the choice plainly: a senior hire fully loaded at about $180k costs four margin points, and repricing the top three retainers is worth about the same. The decision: reprice first, hire second.

Who it's for

Written for the business that has outgrown a bookkeeper.

And is not yet ready to hire a finance team. There is no revenue floor; this is the shape Visory does its best work for.

Visory fits

The leaders we do our best work for.

  • You lead a services business or not-for-profit where wages are the biggest cost and the month runs on people, invoices and payroll.
  • You are accountable for results: a CEO, managing director, general manager or founder, or the finance manager who reports to them.
  • You want the work done and the numbers used, not one or the other.
  • Someone outside the business has to trust the figures: a board, a bank, a funder or a buyer.
Where it fits less well

Where we will tell you so on the first call.

  • You want the books kept and nothing more, at the lowest possible price. A capable local bookkeeper will serve you well.
  • You already run an in-house finance team and need software, not a function.
  • You need a one-off project, an audit or tax advice rather than a monthly rhythm. Visory is a monthly service, because the value is in the rhythm.

Pricing

Know the cost before you start.

One flat monthly fee for the scope we agree, however many services you take. Nobody here bills by the hour.

A scope agreed up front

What Visory runs each month is written down before you commit, so the fee is attached to a defined scope, not an estimate of hours.

A fee that moves with scope, not hours

No timesheets. The fee reflects the services you take and the volume of work in your business, and it only changes when the scope does.

One fee, not three salaries

An in-house function is a bookkeeper, a payroll officer and someone senior, carried all year. Visory is one fee for the function, with cover built in.

Common questions

The questions leaders ask about the whole function.

Straight answers. Each service page carries its own questions; these are the ones about running the function as one.

Is this a virtual CFO?

No, and it is more than one. A virtual CFO reads numbers that someone else still has to make, so the advice is only as good as the books underneath it. Visory runs the function that makes the numbers, then your Business Performance Partner walks you through what they mean and what to do next. The strategic conversation happens on books that are already right, inside your regular sessions rather than at a day rate.

Do we have to take all five services?

No. Each service stands on its own and you take only what you need. Bookkeeping is the foundation, so Visory Insights runs on it, and payroll, payables and receivables are added when you want them. "Bookkeeping, a monthly brief and a forward view of cash" is a perfectly good engagement.

We already have a bookkeeper. What actually changes?

The books still get done, by a Bookkeeper on a dedicated team, with Delphi AI checking every line in the background. What changes is everything after the coding: the pay runs, the bills and the collections run on a cadence you agree, and the month comes back to you as a plain-English read on where the business is heading. See the real comparison on the pricing page.

How is this different from hiring a finance manager?

A finance manager is one person at one salary, who still needs a bookkeeper and a payroll officer underneath them and is away when they are away. Visory gives you the roles, the platform and the cover for one flat monthly fee, and the fee only changes when the scope does.

How long does it take to get started?

Onboarding runs in phases: a kick-off where your team gets access and the scope is agreed, the foundation work on your chart of accounts and reporting, the platform set-up, then go-live and your first month-end close. The state of your books sets the pace. See onboarding, phase by phase.

Our books are months behind. Can you still take us on?

Yes, and it is common. A catch-up is scoped into onboarding so Visory starts from reconciled numbers, and the backlog is worked while the current month stays current. See how catch-up bookkeeping works.
