In September 2024, LinkedIn published its Top 20 Australian Startups list for 2024, and Visory was on it.
Visory began in Melbourne in 2022, founded by Thomas Paule and Jordan Bevans on a bet that AI would make autonomous financial processes possible. The company was in full operational flow from early 2022, and payroll joined bookkeeping as a product line that same year.
What Visory was building in 2024
Visory started as an AI-enabled services firm. Bookkeepers and payroll specialists were hired onto staff, and every workflow was built from direct observation of their work, so that each process would be ready for the models when they arrived.
The business has evolved. AI now runs inside those workflows. A standardised workflow makes the work reliable, teachable and safe to hand to AI. In March 2024, six months before the LinkedIn list, Visory launched Delphi AI, the AI behind its services, working inside those workflows under the oversight of the team.
The people behind the ranking
LinkedIn builds its Top Startups list from what people do on the platform: who joins a company, who applies to it, and who follows and engages with it. It is a measure of where talented people want to work. So the ranking says less about the technology than about the team building it, and the kind of company they had chosen to join.
Visory looks for people with deep knowledge of their craft and a willingness to keep learning. Prior experience with AI is not required. Curiosity is. Four values set the standard for how the team works. Think customer first: every decision starts with what is right for the customer, not what is easiest for Visory. Step into the arena: turn up, take ownership of the outcome and act, rather than watch from the sidelines. Flock to problems: go and look at what is broken, get close enough to understand it, and solve it together. Give energy: changing how financial services are delivered is hard, and when the headwinds come, the team gives energy to the room rather than draining it.
Those values are why the company could hire specialists first and build the AI second. A bookkeeper who owns the accuracy of the books and a payroll officer who owns every pay run are the people whose work the workflows were built from. The ranking in September 2024 recognised a company that people wanted to join, and that is the company those values built. Thomas Paule and Jordan Bevans set out why they started it in a letter on the About Visory page, and the values are written in full, beside the roles open now, on the careers page.
