Every great company is a bet on the future. Ours was that AI models would improve to the point where autonomous financial processes became possible within a few years. In 2022, Jordan Bevans and I started Visory in Melbourne to be ready when they did.
I had spent more than 15 years building technology for large-scale financial services businesses. Jordan had run large-scale accounting and SMSF businesses through automation transformations. In the market we knew best, the back-office was the largest unsolved layer. Business owners were handed more software to operate when what they wanted was the work done.
Built for models that had not arrived
The models were not good enough in 2022. We founded Visory as an AI-enabled services firm. We hired bookkeepers and payroll specialists onto staff and built every workflow from direct observation of their work, so that every process would be ready for the models when they arrived.
By early 2022 we were in full operational flow. Payroll joined bookkeeping as a product line during 2022.
We built the financial partner we wish we'd had. Jordan and I did not want another bookkeeping firm. We wanted financial data to drive decisions instead of filling reports.
The name
We chose Visory for its dictionary meaning: having the power of vision. The thinking behind the company was already in print. SmartCompany had published my article on service as a software in November 2021, and the company we opened in Melbourne in 2022 put that argument to work on real books and real pay runs.
